What are US stock market hours in Korea time after daylight saving ends?

From Monday, November 2, 2026, the regular US stock session runs from 11:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Korea Standard Time. During daylight saving it ran 10:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., so every US session now lands one hour later on a Seoul clock.

Nothing about the exchange itself changes, and neither do the rules for who can trade or what a share costs. NYSE and Nasdaq still trade 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in New York. What moves is the gap between New York and Seoul, which widens from 13 hours to 14.

This guide is written for people who watch the US market from Korea or from elsewhere in Asia, including Koreans living abroad. Facts are as of October 31, 2026. The conversion math is mine; the news items are cited and hedged where I could not open the primary page.

When exactly does the clock change?

US daylight saving time ends at 2:00 a.m. local time on Sunday, November 1, 2026, and clocks fall back to 1:00 a.m. The rule is “first Sunday of November,” so you can compute it from any calendar, and the NIST daylight saving time page describes the same transition.

Because November 1 is a Sunday, no market is open during the change. The first session on the new clock is Monday, November 2, which opens at 11:30 p.m. Monday night in Seoul. If your alarms still say 10:30 p.m., Monday is the day they bite you.

The clocks spring forward again on Sunday, March 14, 2027, the second Sunday of March. That gives roughly four and a half months on the winter schedule, which is long enough for a new routine to stick, so it is worth setting up properly rather than patching it week by week.

Korea keeps the same clock all year. If you ever read that “Korea changes time” in a headline about this, that is shorthand for the gap changing, not for Korea resetting anything.

How does the Korea-US time difference change by city?

Korea moves from 13 hours ahead of New York to 14 hours ahead. The same one-hour widening applies to every US zone that observes daylight saving time. Hawaii does not, so its gap stays put.

US locationGap in summerGap in winter
New York (Eastern)13 hours14 hours
Chicago (Central)14 hours15 hours
Denver (Mountain)15 hours16 hours
Los Angeles (Pacific)16 hours17 hours
Honolulu (no DST)19 hours19 hours

Korean press reports confirm the New York, Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles numbers, and I checked them against UTC offsets myself. Hawaii’s 19 hours is my own computation (UTC-10 against UTC+9).

To convert in your head, take the US local time and add the winter gap. A 9:30 a.m. New York open plus 14 hours is 11:30 p.m. in Seoul the same calendar day. That detail matters for scheduling: the “Monday session” for a Korean viewer starts on Monday night and ends on Tuesday morning.

What about Tokyo, Singapore, Bangkok and Mumbai?

Tokyo matches Seoul, since Japan shares UTC+9: the regular session opens at 11:30 p.m. Zones one or more hours behind Korea open earlier on the clock. None of these places observe daylight saving, so all of them shift by one hour this month.

CityUTC offsetOpen, summerOpen, winterClose, winter
Seoul and TokyoUTC+910:30 p.m.11:30 p.m.6:00 a.m.
Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing, TaipeiUTC+89:30 p.m.10:30 p.m.5:00 a.m.
Bangkok, Hanoi, JakartaUTC+78:30 p.m.9:30 p.m.4:00 a.m.
MumbaiUTC+5:307:00 p.m.8:00 p.m.2:30 a.m.

I computed each row from UTC: 9:30 a.m. Eastern is 14:30 UTC in winter and 13:30 UTC in summer, and 4:00 p.m. Eastern is 21:00 UTC in winter. Offsets for Australia are left out on purpose; Australian clocks changed in October for their own daylight saving, so that table needs its own care.

For readers in Korea, the useful trick is to keep a second clock set to New York on your phone and stop doing arithmetic at all.

What do the sessions look like in Korea time, summer versus winter?

In winter, pre-market is 6:00 p.m.-11:30 p.m. KST, the regular session is 11:30 p.m.-6:00 a.m., and after-hours is 6:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. The table shows the shift against summer.

SessionNew York timeSummer, KSTWinter, KST
Pre-market4:00-9:30 a.m.5:00 p.m.-10:30 p.m.6:00 p.m.-11:30 p.m.
Regular session9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.10:30 p.m.-5:00 a.m.11:30 p.m.-6:00 a.m.
After-hours4:00-8:00 p.m.5:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m.6:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m.
Overnight venue (broker-dependent)8:00 p.m.-4:00 a.m.9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

The regular-session hours are published on the NYSE hours and calendars page. Extended-hours windows are the commonly cited ones; I could not open every exchange page, so treat the edges as approximate and check with your broker.

The overnight row deserves a warning. It is not a primary exchange session. Several Korean brokers route orders to a separate overnight system so Korean clients can trade during their daytime, and availability, tickers and order types differ by broker. Toss Securities, for instance, is reported to list its daytime window as 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. in winter, one hour later than in summer, per the figures in its FAQ as summarized in search results.

What do Korean brokers actually change?

Mostly the clock. Sessions tied to US time slide one hour later, and the app displays the new window. Toss Securities announced in March that its daylight saving schedule applied from March 9 to November 1, 2026, in its official notice.

Here is what I could not verify: a November-specific notice from Toss, Mirae Asset or Kiwoom. I found none in search results. If you hold an account at any of them, open the app notice board rather than trusting a third-party table, including mine.

Three details differ between brokers and are worth a minute of checking.

  • Which sessions accept orders. Some accept pre-market and after-hours only for limit orders.
  • Fractional orders. Dollar-amount orders can have shorter windows than whole-share ones. One source I saw listed slightly inconsistent fractional hours, which is exactly the sort of thing to confirm in-app.
  • Unfilled orders. Many brokers cancel unfilled orders after after-hours ends, in the Korean morning, but the exact cancel time is broker policy.

Which market holidays and early closes fall in November and December?

Thursday, November 26 (Thanksgiving) and Friday, December 25 are full closures. Friday, November 27 and Thursday, December 24 close at 1:00 p.m. Eastern. The NYSE published the 2026-2028 calendar in its holiday and early closings announcement.

US dateStatusKorea time
Thu, Nov 26 (Thanksgiving)ClosedNo session that night
Fri, Nov 27Early close, 1:00 p.m. ETOpens 11:30 p.m. Fri, closes 3:00 a.m. Sat
Thu, Dec 24Early close, 1:00 p.m. ETOpens 11:30 p.m. Thu, closes 3:00 a.m. Fri
Fri, Dec 25 (Christmas)ClosedNo session that night

Early-close sessions are only three and a half hours long. Volume tends to be thin on those days, so wide quoted spreads and abrupt moves are normal. Whether extended-hours trading runs after an early close varies by venue, and I did not confirm it; don’t assume it.

The bond market uses a different early-close time from equities, so a source that says 2:00 p.m. may be describing bonds.

What is the easiest way to get caught out in the first week?

The easiest mistake is trusting a habit instead of the clock. What follows is a composite, not a real person, built from the kinds of slips people describe.

An expat in Seoul has traded for months with a 10:25 p.m. alarm. On Monday, November 2, the alarm rings, she opens the app, sees prices moving, and assumes the market just opened. What she is looking at is pre-market, where volume is thinner and quotes jump more on small orders. She places a market-style order at a price that looks fine and gets a worse fill than expected. Nothing was broken; she was simply an hour early.

The fix is mechanical, not heroic. Rename the alarm to the exchange session, not the clock time. Use limit orders when you trade outside regular hours. Look at the session label in the app before you hit buy.

What should I update before Monday night?

Update four things: alarms and calendar events, any scheduled or recurring orders, travel and work plans, and your assumptions about how long you can stay up. All four take under ten minutes in total.

  1. Alarms and calendar events. Move anything set in Korea time forward one hour. Events entered in Eastern Time usually adjust on their own.
  2. Scheduled or recurring orders. Check how your broker handles orders set across the weekend, and how long they stay valid. Policy differs and I cannot generalize.
  3. Cash and currency. If you fund a US stock account in dollars, settlement and conversion windows are separate from trading hours. Our currency exchange guide covers how rates compare.
  4. Sleep. An 11:30 p.m. open and 6:00 a.m. close leave little room for watching live. If you are a long-term holder, set price alerts instead of staying awake.

I would also take a hard look at whether you need to trade at the open at all. A lot of people stay up out of habit. If you hold broad funds for years, the opening minutes rarely change the outcome. For context on that choice, see our ETF versus individual stocks comparison and the S&P 500 ETF beginner guide.

Will the US make daylight saving time permanent?

As reported, the House passed the Sunshine Protection Act of 2025 (H.R. 139) on July 14, 2026, according to the House Energy and Commerce Committee announcement. Outlets reported the vote count differently, so I am leaving the tally out.

After that, coverage describes the bill as stalled in the Senate. A Time article in early October discussed why senators were hesitating, and some sleep-medicine groups prefer permanent standard time rather than permanent daylight saving time.

I won’t predict how it ends. For your calendar, the point is simple: unless a law is signed and takes effect, the November 1 change happens this year. If a permanent-DST law did take effect, winter would keep summer-style gaps, and the 10:30 p.m. KST open would stay year-round, but the start date and any state-level opt-out would matter.

Last, a word on money. Does a later clock change anything for taxes or costs? No. Trading hours and tax rules are separate. If you are a Korean tax resident selling US stocks, the gain is taxed under Korea’s rules for overseas shares, and a different rule set applies if you live abroad. The general mechanics are in our stock capital gains tax guide, and the filing timeline for Korean residents is in the comprehensive income tax guide.

What the clock change can change is cost through behavior: more weeknight trading, more extended-hours orders, more rushed currency conversion. Those habits cost money long before any tax does.

One more practical point. Your credit card or bank may post dollar charges by US business day, and that edge case is unrelated to session times. If you hold cards for overseas spending, our best credit cards in Korea comparison explains the fee structure.

This article is general information, not investment, tax or legal advice. Exchange and broker hours, order handling and holiday schedules can change, so confirm with the NYSE or Nasdaq calendars and your broker’s notices. Time conversions are my own calculations from UTC offsets. As of October 31, 2026.

What are US stock market hours in Korea time after daylight saving ends?

From Monday, November 2, 2026, the regular NYSE and Nasdaq session runs from 11:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Korea Standard Time. It was 10:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. during daylight saving. The New York clock is unchanged at 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; only the conversion to Seoul moves by one hour.

When does daylight saving time end in the US in 2026?

At 2:00 a.m. local time on Sunday, November 1, 2026, when clocks go back to 1:00 a.m. It always ends on the first Sunday of November. The next start is the second Sunday of March, which is March 14, 2027.

How big is the time difference between Korea and New York in winter?

Korea is 14 hours ahead of New York in winter, up from 13 hours in summer. Chicago becomes 15 hours behind, Denver 16, and Los Angeles 17. Hawaii does not change clocks and stays 19 hours behind Korea all year.

Does Korea change its clocks too?

No. Korea Standard Time is UTC+9 all year, and Japan shares the same offset. Only the US side of the gap moves, which is why Korea looks later on the clock in winter.

What are pre-market and after-hours times in Korea time this winter?

Pre-market, 4:00 to 9:30 a.m. in New York, runs 6:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. KST. After-hours, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in New York, runs 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. KST the next morning. Whether you can trade in these windows depends on your broker, and many limit them to certain order types and securities.

Is the stock market open on Thanksgiving 2026?

No. US exchanges are closed on Thursday, November 26, 2026, and close early at 1:00 p.m. Eastern on Friday, November 27. In Korea time that early close lands at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 28.

When are the other US market closures before year-end?

Thursday, December 24, 2026 has a 1:00 p.m. Eastern early close, which is 3:00 a.m. KST on December 25. Friday, December 25 is a full holiday. Confirm against the NYSE holiday calendar, since details can change.

What time does the US market open in Tokyo, Singapore or Bangkok?

Tokyo opens at 11:30 p.m., the same as Seoul. Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing and Taipei open at 10:30 p.m. Bangkok and Hanoi open at 9:30 p.m. India opens at 8:00 p.m. in winter. None of these places observe daylight saving.

Will the US make daylight saving time permanent?

As reported, the House passed the Sunshine Protection Act (H.R. 139) in July 2026, but the Senate had not acted as of the latest coverage I found in October. Until a law is signed and takes effect, the November 1 clock change proceeds as usual.

Do Korean brokers change their overseas trading hours at the same time?

Korean brokers generally shift their US sessions with the exchange clock, and Toss Securities, for example, lists its regular session as 11:30 p.m.-6:00 a.m. in winter. I could not confirm each broker's November notice, so check your own app for session windows and how pending orders are handled.
